Reports reaching us have it that president Muhammadu Buhari has replaced the Director General (DG) of the Department of Security Services (DSS), Ita Ekpenyong. The Nation reports that the president appointmented Lawal Daura as the new DG of the DSS.
The presidential decision has been announced by Danladi Kifasi, the head of civil service of the federation. Haruna Imrana, the director of communications in Kifasi’s office, made the statement public. PremiumTimes got a comment from the former director general of the agency. He said he was not sacked, but resigned at about 10am on Thursday, June 2.
However, a source in the presidency disagreed with such an interpretation: “If he was instructed to submit a resignation letter, is that not a sack?”
Ekpenyong was appointed the DG of the agency on September 8, 2010. His removal was rather predictable. The SSS failed to maintain neutrality, especially in the run-up to the 2015 general elections.
