All routes led to Sagamu over the weekend as dignitaries attended the 25th coronation anniversary of the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo, a first class Ogun monarch.
The Remo kingdom is one of the four strong kingdoms in Ogun state alongside Egba, Yewa and Ijebu kingdoms. Records have it that, the Oba of Remoland have been in existence since 16th century when the Ijebu kingdom was found by a prince of Oyo named Obanta. Akarigbo is a title given to every Oba of the land, Oba Adeniyi Sonariwo who is a seasoned banker became Oba in 1990 and he is presently the chairman of Obas’ council in the state.
Sons and daughters of the soil, from different part of the world came home to celebrate the respected monarch notable among which were, Nigeria’s vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo who hailed from Ikenne-Remo a subject of Akarigbo kingdom, Music superstar, Koko Master D’Banj attracted huge attention at the event as fans mob around him.
Other important personalities that attended the event are, former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Governor of the State, Senator Ibikunle Amosu, Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona and many more.
