Popular award winning female singer Yemi Alade is not in a relationship now and she is not hiding the fact. The Johnny singer said she is happy being single despite the fact that she is not getting any younger but wait a minute, Alade is not ruling out marriage. She spoke with City People recently. Read excerpts of her interview.
When did you get your big break?
The biggest break came when I released the song called Johnny. I didn’t officially release it, it was leaked online and it went viral immediately.
What inspired the song because people were saying that you got inspired when your heart was broken by a guy?
The song is a straight forward answer to this question. It has said it all. It is a true life story and that is all.
How did you turn it into music?
I was on radio program in Abuja and people started calling and someone said you people are always singing about love, why can’t you do something out of it and I said no problems. Immediately, I got to the studio and I asked myself of a name to use and Johnny came up, I started writing until when I recorded it, I noticed I just did a song on my true life story.
Was that a decision you made after Johnny experience?
Oh no, I realized that if things are not working, you can’t force them to work and that is it. Johnny experience has become things I put behind me, old things have passed away.
Which means you have no interest in marriage?
For sure I will get married someday, when the time comes.
How soon?
I don’t know ooo may be if I write letter to God that can be possible tomorrow.
Are your parents bothered about that?
My mum is not pushing me on that, we believe in God’s time.
At what point are you now in your music career?
I cannot tell for now, I still have places to go. I have a big dream of pushing my musical career higher than where it is right now. In five years to come, I see Yemi Alade on billboards all over the world and also bringing in the Grammy Award. I am still very far from where I want to be.
