You’re on your bed, with your fingers dug deep into your sheets, and your legs spread apart. You can smell the sweat trapped between the stiff strands of hair on the back of your neck as your heart drums to the melody of fear.
Slowly the fear fades into a vague feeling of happiness and gratitude, as your destabilised mind ponders on the significance of incessant fall. Lately I’ve been having such dreams, and it’s been taking longer to fall back into my body. I find her lying next to me when I fall back, the familiar stranger. She breathes the air softly, the same air I gasp for. She’s oblivious of the magnitude of my nocturnal struggle. I believe it’s more than a coincidence, the frequency of these dreams.
I’ve tried to let her know I’m terrified, but she’s not the sentimental type, so I keep my issues in my pocket, and take them with me in the morning when I leave her home, how they weigh my pocket down in the long walk of shame.
What we have is simple, give me love and nothing more. I know it’s coming though, one of these nights I won’t wake up, I won’t fall back into my lifeless body lying on the stranger’s bed
