A gang of armed men broke into a private hospital, robbed patients and deflowered an 18-year-old nurse in Egan, Lagos State, western Nigeria.
According to PM news, the robbers climbed over the fence, got inside the hospital and managed to disarm a security guard, tied him with a rope and locked him in a room. Then they attacked the stuff on night duty and demanded money and valuables belonging to patients, but that was not enough for them as the criminals broke into the patients’ wards and scooped in their telephones and money.
One of the young nurses was gang-raped during the attack and later reported the incident to the police at Igando Division. The woman, whose name is not disclosed, blamed the owner of a hospital of negligence and unwillingness to provide security for the hospital employees. Besides, the 18-year-old claimed that at the moment of the assault she was a virgin.
Following the attack the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Adegbola Dominic was arrested and later released on bail. He confirmed the incident, saying he knew about the robbery but when he asked the victim about the rape – she denied, thus he could not do anything for her. Dr. Dominic also revealed that it was a third first time robbers have raided his hospital, attacking and taking patients’ valuables. The police are now investigating the offense and hunting for criminals.
