A former North American Bureau Chief of The Guardian, Laolu Akande, is set to be appointed as spokesperson in the office of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Premium Times Reports.

Premium Times citing presidential sources says the appointment of Laolu Akande could take effect on Monday or Tuesday, when several other appointments will be announced.

Akande, who is known to have carved a niche for himself in journalism dating back to The Guardian in 1989, was said to have been in the country during the presidential inauguration to cover the ceremony for his media agency, but returned shortly after.

He will be appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to lead the media and communication unit in the office of Vice President, according to sources.
