Naira strengthens against dollar for second consecutive day

Short Naira Exchange monitor

The naira has maintained its improvement against the dollar, rising to about N320 to the dollar. While there had been contrary reports of the naira crashing against the dollar in recent days, the Nigerian currency appreciated on the parallel market as Easter approaches.

This will come as good news for Nigerians who have been groaning under the harsh exchange rates when importing goods.

While the rate in Lagos is at 323/dollars In Port Harcourt the best deal is no less than N326/dollar as the indigenes remain upbeat following recent violence reported in the state. However, in Katsina state, the rate stood at about 320/dollar in the black market, as BDC operators maintained that the rates are the best in town.

The operators confirmed that the exchange rate of the naira, although expectedly firming up against the American currency, is still unsteady on the black market. “There is an improvement from what we had yesterday and it looks like it shall continue that way for the rest of this week,” our reliable bureau de change operator informed us.
