A 28-year-old man, Ajayi Peters, aka Ajana, has been stabbed to death in the Yaba area of Lagos State after a disagreement over N50 loaf of bread.

PUNCH Metro learnt from residents that Peters was killed by a bread vendor, identified simply as Yinka, aka Buredi. Our correspondents gathered that Peters had tried to prevail on Yinka after he refused to sell a loaf to one of his customers on credit. It was learnt that there was an argument between the men and in the ensuing scuffle, Peters grabbed a knife and stabbed the deceased in the head.

Buhari today inaugurated the National Economic Council which will be chaired by VP Yemi Osinbajo, while all the 36 state governors and the Governor of the central bank Godwin Emefiele are to serve as members. The team will be responsible for advising President Buhari on all issues relating to the Nigerian economy.

Central Bank of Nigeria has extended the deadline for the Bank Verification Number, BVN, registration to October 31st. The Apex bank had earlier fixed today June 30th as the deadline for the registration. Hopefully more Nigerians would have completed their registration before the new deadline elapses

The Federal government yesterday June 29th constituted a four-man committee to probe NNPC over N3.8 trillion unaccounted for by the corporation in the last three years. According to the Edo state governor, who is part of the 4-man probe committee, investigations by the federal government show that NNPC made N8.1 trillion from 2012-2015, paid N4.3 trillion to the federal government and withheld N3.8 trillion which the management of the corporation have not accounted for.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega is set to vacate his office today, June 30, 2015.
Jega was appointed to a five-year tenure by former President, Goodluck Jonathan in 2010.
He will leave office along with six National Commissioners who were appointed at the same time by Jonathan.

OOU Students Protest On Lagos-Ore Expressway

Thousands of protesting Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), students seized the Sagamu-Ilisan stretch of the Lagos-Ore expressway as they protested at the scene of a ghastly accident that claimed the lives of 12 students of the institution.

The students were crushed to death and others severely injured on Friday when a container fell on a passenger bus carrying the students in Ago-Iwoye, Osun state. The truck was driving against the traffic and in a bid to avoid a barrier at the Sagamu stretch of the Lagos/Benin expressway, the container it carried tipped over and fell on top of the bus.

According to Al Jazeera, at least 113 people have been killed after an Indonesian military transport plane crashed shortly after take-off into a city on Sumatra island, exploding in a ball of flames in a residential area. Reports say that the Hercules plane hit a hotel and houses in the northern Sumatra city of Medan on Tuesday.

“The latest information we have is that 30 have died…. The number could go up,” Hisar Turnip, a spokesman for Indonesia’s search and rescue agency told Reuters.

According to Punch, on Monday the All Progressives Congress (APC) insisted on removing the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, of the minority Peoples Democratic Party. The source reports that an anonymous APC leader explained that Ekweremadu as deputy senate president would hamper the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

He said: “As deputy senate leader, Ekweremadu is automatically the Chairman, Senate Committee on Constitution Amendment. This is a sensitive position that, statutorily, should not be held by the minority.Ekweremadu and his PDP co-travellers will hamper the policies of the Buhari government.

Three people were killed Sunday after their small plane crashed into a home in Plainville, Massachusetts. The plane was said to have taken off from Lancaster Airport in Pennsylvania and was headed to Norwood Memorial Airport in Massachusetts.

Tragic has stroke at Fugar headquarters of Etsako central local governmnet area of Edo state as a policeman reportedly killed two nursing mothers at a burial ceremony.

It was said that the policeman’s gun went off as he tried to open the car door for the traditional ruler to go in. The two women, who hit by the bullets were said to be seated under the canopy along with other guests at the ceremony.

Presidency Denies Arrest Of Buhari's Brother-In-Law

The presidency has denied recent reports that Muhammadu Buhari ordered the Department of State Sevice (DSS) to arrest his brother-in-law Musa Yola over suspicion of fraud. Premium Times reports that Garba Shehu, the presidential spokesperson, categorically denied the allegations by saying:

“It is definitely not true, there is no iota of truth on this report there is no basis for the president to do that.” Meanwhile, Yola also said that he was not arrested and was shocked to see the reports in the social media. “As we speak, I am in the president’s office and I was with him last night,” he said.

Many Feared Dead In Benin-Lagos Road Multiple Accidents

Reports reaching from Ovia Local Government Area of Edo State indicate that a ghastly truck accident occurred between tanker and trailer on Friday evening, June 26, with many feared dead.
A witness, who spoke to Naij.com correspondent on condition of anonymity, said there was a multiple accident along Benin-Lagos express road by Ovia River. The witness said the drivers and motor boy were burn to death.

Another source, who gave his name as Iyobosa, said the first crash occurred on Friday, making the officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission to divert traffic to the other lane of the Benin-Lagos road, with the intention of coming to remove the two accidental trucks on Saturday morning.
He said unfortunately, before the FRSC officials got there on Saturday morning, two other trucks have locked themselves in a tight corner of the free side, because none of them wanted to give way to the other. He said the development resulted to a complete blockage of the both sides of the express road.

Lagos Bank Robberies: SARS Gets New Boss. The Lagos state police command has appointed James Okeke to head the command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Deputy Superientendent Okeke was a former deputy to Abba Kyari, the former officer in charge of SARS. Before his appointment Okeke was deployed in controversial circumstances to the Area F police command, Ikeja, as a deputy crime officer. Our correspondent learnt that Okeke, who had barely a month before he retired from the force was posted back to head SARS following successive bank robberies in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The news on appointment of Colonel Hamidu Ali as President Buhari’s chief of staff broke in the afternoon of Monday, June 29, 2015.

The status of the former military administrator of Kaduna state was also immediately updated by Wikipedia, where it was stated that “he is currently the Chief of Staff to president Muhammadu Buhari” , despite there was no source given as the confirmation of the appointment.

Fresh details have emerged following the death of DSP Tamuno Jacob Igbomie, a former security aide to Patience Jonathan. A security source, who spoke to Leadership, said Tamuno, was murdered because of the role he played as the former first lady’s aide.

It was gathered that DSP Igbomie, who was killed along Airport road, Abuja, was a very close aide to Patience Jonathan and had stepped on several toes in the discharge of his duties as principal security officer to the former first lady.

President Muhammau Buhari may have lost the support of some Yoruba elders less than 100 days into his tenure. The leaders are particularly angry with Buhari over the recently concluded National Assembly elections, which they feel was a big blow to the South west.

They berated the president for his silence and suggested that their region might not benefit from the Buhari administration despite voting massively for the president during the April 2015 presidential polls. “For the fact that the South-West played a key role in the emergence of Buhari as the President, it is expected that they would occupy a more strategic position than the post of vice president”, said one of the elders.

Boko Haram Insurgents Are In Their Last Days - Expert

Radical islamic insurgents, Boko Haram may be on their way out of Nigeria if recent reports are anything to go by.

Chigozie Ubani, a security expert, who made this disclosure Monday morning, noted that the radical terrorists are already a spent force and they are trying to make Nigerians scared of them with their recent attacks in the north-eastern part of the country.

No Plan To Relocate Boko Haram Convicts To Anambra. Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state has responded fiercely to an alleged planned to relocate Boko Haram convicts to Anambra state prisons. A statement by James Eze, the governor’s media aide, described the rumours as false and mischievous speculation.

He said that Obiano has always been determined to keep Anambra safe and free from evil. He noted that when Obiano got wind of the planned relocation of these high risk prisoners to Anambra state, he quickly contacted the relevant authorities to seek clarification on the matter after which he raised several objections to the plan.

Report says a facility belonging to the Agip oil company in Ebocha, Ogba Egbema Ndoni LGA, Rivers state, was last two days, June 28, 2015, razed by fire.

According to the Vanguard, the fire started at about 11pm after a loud explosion. Though the cause of the fire or number of casualties is yet to be ascertained when this report was compiled, the medium reported men of the state fire service battled to curtail the fire.

Chibok Girls Have Been Forced To Join Boko Haram & Now Kill – Escapees Tell BBC

Some of the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped have been forced to join Islamist militant group Boko Haram, the BBC has been told. Witnesses say some are now being used to terrorise other captives, and are even carrying out killings themselves.

The testimony cannot be verified but Amnesty International says other girls kidnapped by boko haram have been forced to fight. 219 schoolgirls from Chibok, are still missing, more than a year after they were kidnapped from their school in northern nigeria. Many of those seized are Christians.

Honorable Patrick Obahiagbon in an interview with Punch Newspaper revealed his ordeal with the west african examination council exam (WAEC).

He said his Results were seized twice ‘cos of the ‘big grammars’ he used.

Punch: Did you write exams in school in these big words?

Honorable: I used such words very-very freely in my exams both at the secondary school and in my university and little wonder I had the misfortune of my English results being seized intermittently in my O’ Levels. WAEC released my results for the other subjects and withheld my English result. This happened for about three years. Twice, I passed the University Matriculation Examination but I could not proceed to the University because of my English results that were not released. At the end of the day, it was released after the third attempt.

Arsenal have signed Petr Cech from Chelsea in a deal worth about £10m.

The Czech Republic goalkeeper, who played more than 400 club games in 11 seasons at Stamford Bridge, has joined the Gunners on a four-year contract. Cech, 33, made only seven league appearances last season after losing his place to Belgian Thibaut Courtois.

The Presidency has directed the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, to refund over-payment of salaries running into millions of Naira.

The Registrar of the university, David Suowari, was also directed to refund cumulatively the sum of N130,692.71 per month in excess of his due salary.

The over-payments were said to have been discovered during the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission’s inspection to the University on May 12, 2015 after which the VC and the Registrar were accused of appropriating certain allowances to themselves that were not approved by the government.

The driver and security guard of former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Ondo state who was found dead inside a store in his home in Ijapo estate in Akure yesterday June 28th have given a vivid description of how they killed him.

Bamidele, who was fired by the late don for attempting to steal his car some months back, said he connived with Daniel Ita the security guard to carry out the act. He said Daniel lured the old man out of the main house before he strangled him to death.

A little back story:

So I met this little kid just beside shoprite gate in Enugu. He was displaying his craft and people were encouraging him by dropping some cash and a few words of advice. I spoke to him and he explained what inspired him and how he made little machine. He is a student of Government Technical College Enugu and made the little machine for display so he could get some money to sustain himself in school. The machine is powered by the pressure from water flowing through the tubes and is controlled by the series of clinical syringes attached to the tubes to move the various parts of the machine
